This Dormify piece is post 3 in a series of 3.
Last, but certainly not least, we’re here to discuss the best part about moving: the finishing touches! Sometimes, the little things can end up being your favorite thing of all. Take room decorations, for example. Decorating the walls gives your room personality, adds a touch of “you” to every corner, and is all-around exciting to purchase and style. Other little things that make a big difference can be the things you have out on your desk. Everything from product organizers to candles can turn a desk around, giving your room that homey, yet orderly feel. From your walls to your desk and everything in between, we have some epic tips that we know you’re going to die over.
From the window to the wall
Most of us have never lived in a room with such bare, cold, hard white walls—until college, that is. The only way you can prepare for this is by bringing personal decorative items to fill that empty wall space and make your room feel like home. If you’re all about pictures, find as many of your favorites as you want and get them printed out (at local Walgreen’s or CVS stores, they’re super inexpensive). Then, tape them on your wall to make a memorable collage of all your favorite memories.
If you’re not as obsessed with pictures as some, get creative and do a few D-I-Y projects! If you’re the colorful type, try decorating your walls with paint chips. It’s super unique and adds so much life to those otherwise dreary walls.
If you’re looking for something decorative as well as practical, try making a monogrammed canvas hanger so you have a few extra hooks for all those miscellaneous items.
In college, your desk is not only your study spot, but also your hair station, your makeup vanity, and your hangout spot. With that being said, it’s especially important that you keep everything organized. Keep your papers and books together in one place with a letter holder or a magazine holder. Get easy access to makeup brushes, hair brushes or simply pens and pencils with a pencil holder, or get creative and use your favorite mug or cup. In addition to being organized, you want to be comfortable at your desk. Give it that home-y feeling with candles, picture frames, and even speakers so you can jam out with your friends or roommate.
No matter what type of room it is, the little things are what pull it all together. It might be a dorm room, an apartment, or even a new office, but whatever the case, you can’t go wrong with decorating and organizing. We hope that after reading, you’re beyond prepared to go off to college. Now, it’s time to pack up the car, say your goodbyes, and get ready for the fun to begin. We wish you the best of luck on your incredible college journey!
